Adopt A Drain

There are 639 stormwater drains in Tisbury! If those drains are clogged with leaves and debris, rainwater cannot enter them and polluted water pours down our roads into our waterways.

To help, Tisbury Waterways, Inc. (TWI) has launched an exciting new program called Adopt-a-Drain.  While DPW focuses on the drains on the busiest streets, TWI volunteers like you can maintain stormwater drains on neighborhood streets. Your participation will keep our waterways safe for swimming and the animals and plants that live in them.

Here’s how you can help:

·      Volunteer to Adopt-a-Drain

·      Identify stormwater drains in your neighborhood

·      Choose one to adopt

·      Fill out the registration form

·      Check and clean your drain regularly

Report a Problem with your drain

To get you started, TWI will give you a registration form. This needs to be signed by a parent or guardian.  When you return the form, TWI will help you register your drain on its website. Once you’re registered, TWI will give you a safety vest, heavy trash bags, gloves, safety tips and answer any questions.

Be the first to Adopt-a-Drain! Your drain will appear on a map on the TWI website, along with your name, or the name of your drain.

How to adopt a storm drain

Volunteer fifteen minutes, twice a month, for cleaner waterways and healthier communities. Storm drains flow directly to streams, lakes, and beaches, acting as a conduit for trash and organic pollutants. TWI asks residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris to reduce water pollution.
